Intriligator Innovations is led by Dr. James Intriligator (above).

In addition to his work as an inventor and entrepreneur, Dr. Intriligator is also a full professor at two universities, in two countries. He is:

  • Professor of the Practice in Human Factors, Tufts University School of Engineering, Medford, Massachusetts, USA, and
  • Professor of Innovation and Consumer Psychology at Bangor University, Bangor, Wales, UK.

In addition, Intriligator is an inventor and holder of several US patents. He is also an entrepreneur, serving as director of a British tech start-up that combines behavior-change psychology and game-ification strategies to fight alcoholism and obesity.

Some Background

Since receiving his PhD (cognitive neuroscience, Harvard University, 1997), Intriligator has moved between academia and industry several times. In the commercial world, he ran think tanks, designed new offerings in the automotive and financial services sectors, and has worked with some of the world’s largest corporations.

As an academic, Intriligator has authored over 50 peer-reviewed articles in high-profile scientific journals such as Nature, Nature Neuroscience, Neuron, and Biological Psychology. He has published important work in multiple domains including psychology, neuroscience, design, entrepreneurship, physics, consumer psychology, and education.

Academic Posts

Since 2003, Intriligator has helped to shape one of the world’s first programs in Consumer Psychology, at Bangor University in Wales. In addition to supervising undergraduate and graduate degrees in consumer psychology, Intriligator also developed two, new unique cross-disciplinary masters programs: Consumer Psychology & Business, and Consumer Psychology & Digital Media. In addition, he helped to found two interdisciplinary extra programs in entrepreneurial skills: Enterprise by Design and the Social Enterprise Accelerator.

At Bangor Intriligator has won many grants and awards. Some recent honors include: receiving a personal chair based on “innovation and impact,” being named a Bangor University Teaching Fellow (2013), and being named a “National Teaching Fellow” – the UK’s highest teaching honor (2014).

In 2016 Intriligator joined the faculty of the School of Engineering, Tufts University, Boston. He brings his expertise in Consumer Psychology to a related domain, Human Factors — the scientific study of how people interact with devices, products, and systems.

Consulting

As a consultant in marketing and product development, Professor Intriligator has worked with dozens of national and international companies, including Unilever, The National Trust, Aldi, Mars/Masterfoods, Tesco, Johnson & Johnson, laterooms.com, and Cadbury, as well as banks such as Santander, HBOS and Lloyds Banking Group.
