Teaching
I have taught at Harvard, at Bangor University in Wales, and at Tufts, and I have built teaching programs at Bangor and at Tufts.
A personal chair for innovation and impact
In 2014 I was named a UK National Teaching Fellow. When Bangor announced the award, its news story said I was "the first Bangor academic to receive a personal chair based not on research but on innovation and impact in research and teaching." Bangor's story
At Bangor I built Enterprise by Design, a multidisciplinary enterprise program. It was written up as a case study for HE STEM in 2012 and for Big Ideas Wales in 2013. I also helped build the university's master's programs in consumer psychology.
In 2012 Bangor's students gave me the NUS university-wide award as their Equality and Liberation Champion. Designing for the people most designs leave out is also where Persona Multiplication came from.

At Tufts, I grew the Human Factors Engineering programs from 5 graduate students in 2016 to 37 graduate students and 3 PhD students in 2020, and increased the number of undergraduates by 50%.
On Sept 20th, 2023, I taught a mock class for prospective students that over 100 attended, and more than 80 were still online asking questions 20 minutes after it ended. I have taught more since, in April 2024 for prospective and accepted students and twice in Sept 2026.
Professor of Banking Innovations at the Asian Banking School in Kuala Lumpur, where I taught for several years.
The IDEA Lab
I founded the IDEA Lab at Tufts more than eight years ago. Students from any school at Tufts form teams that design and build real projects, and the students run those projects themselves, for no pay and no academic credit.
It started with 12 students and last spring had over 120. When the original lab grew past 80 students, we split it in two, so it now runs as the IDEA Human Factors Lab and IDEA Lab @ Fletcher, with 13 projects this fall.
